Election Commission gives clean chit to PM Modi for Patan speech

For the fifth consecutive day, the Election Commission (EC) on Saturday gave a clean chit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for complaints filed over his speech made at Patan in Gujarat on 21 April. The EC found that the speech did not violate the model code of conduct (MCC).
The Congress party had filed a complaint with the Election Commission raising concerns over Modi's comments in Patan for invoking Captain Abhinandan Varthaman's release and alluding to the efforts of the union government for his release.
For the Patan speech related complaint, the Election Commission had sought a detailed report from the chief electoral officer of Gujarat. Upon scrutiny, EC found no violation of the model code.
