The Congress party suspects a ‘scam’ in the TTD’s investment of gold in various banks under deposit schemes.
The party leaders led by former Member of Parliament Chinta Mohan staged a demonstration at the TTD headquarters here on Friday, demanding that the authorities reveal the details of all the schemes and come out clean on the issue.
“Devotees from across the globe make their offerings with utmost devotion to Lord Venkateswara and it should not be allowed to be misused,” he said. Expressing suspicion over the manner in which the funds were being put in various banks, he alleged that some ‘big people’ were getting ‘commission’ in the deposit of TTD funds.
Taking exception to putting funds in branches situated outside Tirupati, he said depositing the same in local branches would lead to the funds being reinvested in the drought-prone region.
