In Tamil Nadu, decked-up model booths a big hit

Model booths set up in Tamil Nadu to attract voters, especially the first-timers, were decked up like marriage halls. From plantain trees to a red carpet welcome, they did it all. For instance, at the Panchayat Union Primary School in Tiruvallur, the walkway to the booth sported colourful flags and was well carpeted. Inside the booth, one could see satin-covered chairs and orange and beige curtains.
Of 3,754 booths in Chennai district, 61 were turned into model booths in the Chennai North, Chennai South and Chennai Central Lok Sabha constituencies. These booths offered a great relief to voters who walked in amid the searing heat to exercise their franchise as they were covered up well.
In the Chennai North constituency, the Vellayan Chettiyar Higher Secondary School at Tiruvottiyur wore bright shades of yellow and maroon curtains and window valance. The look of the booth at Rani Meyyammai Girls Higher Secondary School in R.A. Puram too was enhanced to welcome voters.
