The Congress on Saturday confirmed that party president Rahul Gandhi will campaign for his candidates in Tripura.
“Mr. Gandhi will address a rally at Khumpui Academy ground in Khumulwng on March 20,” Congress State general secretary Baptu Chakraborty told The Hindu.
Khumulwng, 14 km east of Agartala, is the headquarters of the Tripura Tribal Autonomous District Council. The Congress hopes to put up a strong fight in East Tripura (Tribal Reserved) constituency after royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya was recently appointed as State party president.
Mr. Manikya led a movement against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and was successful in roping in the youth wing of the IPFT, junior partner of the BJP-led coalition government.
