Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh hints he may not contest

Former chief minister and BJP national vice-president Raman Singh has dropped hints that he may not contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. Mr Singh told the media in Raipur in Chhattisgarh after closure of two-day meeting of Pradesh Election Committee (PEC) late on Thursday that his name did not figure among the prospective candidates recommended for Rajnandgaon parliamentary constituency.
The development assumes significance in the wake of reports that Mr Singh along with former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje may shift to Centre in the wake of BJP’s loss of power in states of Chhattisgarh, MP and Rajasthan in the last year’s assembly elections.
