The Supreme Court on Wednesday demanded to know what the Assam government had done so far to protect the state from “external aggression” in the form of illegal immigration of foreign nationals into the state, a fact Chief Justice of India said had completely “overwhelmed” the state. 

The top court had in a 2005 ruling referred to the internal displacement of locals pursuant to the illegal immigration from neighbouring Bangladesh as “external aggression.”
