‘I rule myself out of any contest in LS polls’

After a gap of two years, former Chief Minister and former External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna is trying to be active in politics again ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. But he has denied speculation of him or his family members contesting the polls. In an interview with The Hindu, the Bharatiya Janata Party leader says he will actively campaign for his party candidates. Excerpts:
It is over two years since you quit Congress, with which you were associated for nearly five decades, and joined BJP. How do you feel now?
I feel quite satisfied and comfortable in the BJP, though I’m not very active. Even in the Congress, I had ceased to be very active when I left.
How do you rate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s chances of returning to power again? I have no doubts that Mr. Modi will come back. He has done well for the country. The very reason I joined BJP was because I felt the need of the country was a strong and decisive leadership. But the setback in a few State Assemblies, including Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, has given hope to the Opposition that has formed Mahagathbandhan.
