CPI (M) for Left unity ahead of LS polls

The CPI (Marxist) has decided to focus strengthening the Left parties unity in the State ahead of elections to Lok Sabha and has already initiated discussions with the CPI in this direction.
The development assumes significance as the CPI (M) led the Bahujan Left Front in the recent Assembly elections while the CPI joined hands with the People’s Front headed by the Congress. CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said the party had focussed attention on defeating the BJP, increasing the strength of the Left parties and work for alternative government at the Central level and it was accordingly evolving State specific electoral strategies.
With BJP having a nominal presence in Telangana, the party was finalising its stand vis-a-vis the Telangana Rashtra Samiti here. Mr. Yechury was here in connection with the party’s State Committee and State Secretariat meetings where he gave detailed explanation about the party’s line to the members. Addressing a press conference, accompanied by CPI (M) State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram, he said there was clear indication that the CPI would join hands with the party in the coming elections.
