Won’t interfere with HC order for CBI probe into Thoothukudi firing, says SC

The Supreme Court on Monday declined to interfere with a Madras High Court order directing a CBI investigation into the police firing on protesters demanding the closure of the Sterlite Copper plant in Thoothukudi over pollution concerns.
“Let the investigation go on in a free and fair manner,” a Bench comprising the Chief Justice of India and Justice Sanjee Khanna said.
However, the SC directed that certain adverse comments against the State be expunged from the text of the High Court order.
