CAB issue has affected party in Meghalaya: BJP State President Shibun Lyngdoh

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Meghalaya, Shibun Lyngdoh has expressed the apprehension that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB), 2016 has to an extent affected the party in the State. “The CAB has affected the party in Meghalaya and we cannot hide the fact. However, we have two BJP MLAs in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) and both the MLAs have agreed to the Cabinet resolution to oppose the Bill,” Lyngdoh said while speaking to The Sentinel. He pointed out that with the resolution to oppose the Bill, it clearly shows that both the BJP MLAs in the MDA government are also against the CAB. “Even AL Hek, our BJP MLA who is also a Cabinet Minister, has expressed his opposition towards the Bill as well as Sanbor Shullai, South Shillong constituency MLA. But despite this, we cannot hide the fact that it has affected the party in Meghalaya,” he said. When asked on the statement made by Sanbor Shullai that more than 10,000 of his supporters who had enrolled with the BJP in South Shillong, are ready to quit the party if the CAB is passed in the Rajya Sabha, Lyngdoh said, “That is his (Shullai) personal comment.” The BJP leader further said that he has nothing to comment if 10,000 BJP supporters leave the party as in politics anyone can join a political party and anyone can leave a party at any time.
