Govt. mulls withdrawing action against staff who went on strike

The State government is examining the possibility of withdrawing the disciplinary action taken against the government employees and teachers who took part in the recent indefinite strike spearheaded by the Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers’ Organisations and Government Employees' Organisations (Jactto-Geo), Personnel and Administrative Reforms Minister D. Jayakumar informed the Assembly on Monday.
However, he said that the review of the action taken against the government employees and teachers would be based on the nature of the offences they had committed during their indefinite strike.
In some cases, those involved in the strike had indulged in road blocks, affecting traffic, and hence, action against them would be taken based on the nature of the offences committed, Mr. Jayakumar said.
The Minister’s statement came in response to a motion moved by DMK member and former Minister Thangam Thennarasu (Tiruchuli) and Congress MLA J.G. Prince (Colachel), who urged the government to withdraw all departmental and other action taken against government employees and teachers who participated in the strike last month.
