Chamling urges business community to take responsibility to make Sikkim more prosperous
Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chmaling today attended the “Bhoomi Pujan” and foundation stone laying ceremony of Marwari Sarwajanik Seva Bhawan at old children park terrace today.
In his address the CM congratulated the entire Marwari community on the fulfilment of their long-pending demand.
Earlier in the day, CM laid the foundation stone of a social housing project for economically weaker section at Sokaythang, Gangtok and Khangchendzonga, Square Multilayered Car Park and Commercial Hub at old STNM complex, both under Gangtok Smart City Project.
He also said one of the hallmarks of his government was good governance that ensured peace, security and harmony. ``Though Sikkim is surrounded by three international boundaries, it is untouched by violence of any kind. This is primarily due to the good governance which we have provided to our people for the last 24 years,’’ the chief minister said.
He also said business activities under SDF rule have flourished, and real estate value too has sky rocketed.
``Our Government has always believed in inclusive development and we have done everything possible to bring the business community into the mainstream of Sikkimese society. Today the business community and Residential Certificate (RC) holders enjoy all the benefits of SSC holders in the urban areas. Secure and safe environment which our government has provided, is not enjoyed by businessmen in other parts of the country. Unlike days prior to our Government when businessmen and shopkeepers were under the frequent threat of extortion, today they are free to carry on their trade without any kind of interference or threat or blackmailing. Five per cent reservation in higher studies is granted to the students of the business community and the demand for the increase in this reservation will be looked into in the coming academic session.
He also said that with democratic rights came higher responsibilities. ``Our business community should be willing to take onerous responsibility to make Sikkim even better. I also urge them to support the organic mission and use the brand name of Sikkim as the first and the only organic state. I urge the businessmen not to sell any inorganic products and help encourage our farmers to increase their production,’’ Chamling said.
The CM also announced that from the next financial year, the members of the business community can avail start up schemes . He also assured them he would to look into all the demands placed before him during the function.
