‘Work on river linking project will begin soon’

chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Wednesday said work on the Godavari-Cauvery river linking scheme, envisaged by the Centre, would soon begin.
The scheme would enable Tamil Nadu to get 200 tmc feet water from the Godavari in Andhra Pradesh, which would otherwise flow into the sea.
“The scheme will provide a permanent solution to meet the drinking water and agriculture needs of 20 districts in Tamil Nadu that are dependent on river Cauvery,” Mr Palaniswami said at a function near here to inaugurate a memorial for farmers’ leader, Narayanasamy Naidu. To tap water from within the State, the government had formed a committee, comprising four retired engineers of the Public Works Department.
