PM lays foundation stone for entrepreneurship hub at MKU

The foundation stone for a new ‘Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Career Hub’ to come up at a cost of ₹15 crore at Madurai Kamaraj University was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing from Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.
The hub, to be set up with funds sanctioned under Phase II of the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) scheme, will introduce a variety of initiatives to inculcate entrepreneurship skills among students and encourage them to start, grow and scale into sustainable enterprises through innovation, university officials said.
Apart from this hub, the university has been sanctioned another ₹35 crore for improvement towards research, innovation and quality, and another ₹3.5 crore for faculty improvement under Phase II of RUSA.
It can be noted that MKU was sanctioned ₹20 crore under Phase I of the scheme, in which different infrastructure upgrade projects, including modernisation of library, conversion of all classrooms into smart classrooms, providing wireless internet connectivity throughout the campus, installing rainwater harvesting and upgrade of health centres were implemented.
