Political parties dub interim Budget an election manifesto

The interim Budget presented by the interim Finance Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday will end up as a bad dream for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as it was only an attempt to lure voters, and was rather an election manifesto, DMK president M.K. Stalin said. Slamming the interim Budget and the various announcements made in it, Mr. Stalin said though the announcements for the farmers and the income tax rebate for those in the ₹5 lakh slab was to be welcomed, the timing of the announcement, the money to be given to them, was an attempt to entice the farmers who had begun deserting the BJP. “This is an attempt to try and cross the shore using their help with such announcements ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls,” he added.
