Tamil Nadu CM appeals to striking government employees to return to work

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Tuesday appealed to striking government employees and teachers to withdraw their strike and return to work.
Members of the Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers' Organisations and Government Employees' Organisations (Jactto-Geo) have been on strike since January 22, affecting work in government offices and students in State-run schools.

The CM’s appeal came after more government employees’ associations, including the Tamil Nadu Secretariat Association (Tansa), confirmed on Tuesday that they would go ahead with a one-day token strike announced earlier, pressing for three primary demands. Earlier, Chief Secretary Girjia Vaidyanathan issued a circular to heads of department to take action against employees who go on strike.
